Question about vet college?

So i have been looking at vet school and i have narrowed it down to three. But i was looking at the University of Minnesota and reading about the vet program and this is what it said

The D.V.M. is a rigorous four-year professional program
preceded by three to four years of pre-professional study.
During the first three years, you will study the normal
animal, the pathogenesis of diseases, and the prevention,
alleviation, and clinical therapy of diseases. The program
concludes with 14 months of clinical rotations in the
Veterinary Medical Center, during which you will learn
the methods of veterinary care and develop professional
practice skills. The fourth year includes 6 to 10 weeks
of externship experience at off-campus sites. Upon
receiving your degree, you will be qualified to work as
a veterinarian, pursue additional training in a specialty,
or enter a graduate degree program.

So how many years of schooling is it saying i need? I have always thought it was 8, but this confused me a little. I want to be an equine vet and it seems like it says you take 8 years and then take more years for the specialty you want….but that doesn’t sound right to me…..
So how many years it saying i need?

Thanks!

Another Probability question?

It is known that 90% of all unvaccinated dogs whoa re exposed to Lyme disease will contract the disease and become symptomatic. The veterinary Lyme disease vaccination is known to be 80% effective in dogs, that is, if a vaccinated dog is exposed to Lyme disease, there is only a 20% chance that the dog will contract the disease. From prior data, it is known that 85% of dog owners vaccinate their dogs against lyme disease. A stray dog with an out-of-state license wanders into a vet clinic with early symptoms of Lyme disease. We can estimate with 80% or greater certainty that the dog has not been vaccinated.

True of False.

Please let me know how you arrived at your answer.

Thanks!!!

Question about neutered dog and false pregnancy?

Our dog just started “menstruating”. We’ve had her 3 weeks, (she’s a stray) and her veterinary appointment isn’t for another 2 weeks (when she will be checked over, vaccinated, and have another appointment made so that she can be spayed.. My question is this:

4 days ago our neighbor’s neutered dog got into our yard and mated with her and they were “tied” for at least 10 minutes. (stuck together).. We know for a fact that he is neutered.. What are the chances that she will go through a false pregnancy?? She’s starting to act “strange” and her vulva is even more swollen then before but no discharge.. Her nipples seem to be a bit swollen.. How soon will we know? Anyone else have similar experiences?? What should we expect?? if anything..

What diseases could our neighbor’s dog get from her?? He’s up to date on his vaccines and heart worm meds… His owner made him a vet appointment to have him checked out just in case…
Yes they got him from a local animal shelter. I was with them when they were finally allowed to bring him home. (There is a waiting period here to adopt an animal, plus home inspections.)

Can someone help me with a dog health question?

My dog keeps scratching her ears. After a week I finally looked in there and one of them has black/brown colored “goop” in it. We took a Qtip and put alcohol on there to clean it out. We couldnt get it all. Does anyone know what she might have? Also, is there something at the pet store we could get. Trying to avoid a Vet bill unless she needs Rx’s. Thanks for any help.
