Are there malpractice laws involving canines in Ohio? How can petowners protect themselves?

I have a question. I know that Parvo swept over Ohio this last fall and this winter. I want to know if there are veterinary rules for a veterinarian to inform the dog owner if the dog has a serious illness?

I ask this question because this winter my family went on vacation and we had our dogs stay at a reputable kennel in the area after which the dogs became ill. The Veterinarian brushed off the illness until it became too bad to ignore (two visits later and Vomiting, lethargy, lack of eating, and diarrhea). Both dogs died after they were admitted into emergency care and the vet witheld information on what really happened. They sent the bodies of our dogs to the center of disease control and then gave us a false number at which to call for follow-up. The dogs died from symptoms similar to parvo.

We did research the vet and kennel… and it seemed fine. I know for future reference I will never go to them again…

Sorry this happened. Research the vets you choose for your dogs. Ask for referrals. There isn’t much you can do other than report the vet to the AVMA if there was blatant disregard for the safety of your pet.

report this kennel to the humane society and also to animal control in your area anytime a dog dies after being in a kennel it should be reported because of possible outbreaks and all the state should be notified . also I am sure that animal control and the humane society will be checking after you report this . cause other peoples dogs may have had the same thing happen to them . You should report this incident . sorry for your loss.
