You did 160 miles? Awesome! we would love to do that some day. Thanks for the compliments about the vid. It brings back lotsa great memories.

I didn’t think so, it looked very difficult for him. Wondered though since Bill Irwin hiked the whole AT blind w/ a guide dog, “Orient”. Must have gone at a snails pace. So maybe a three-legged dog could do the whole thing. It took Irwin quite some time, so it would require an enormous amount of patience. Polenka had a three-legged friend in Truckee, CA that was faster and stronger than her (with four legs). He used to play pretty rough with her. Thanks…

The whole trail? Not at all, we wish. Jerry couldn’t go very far by this time. But he did pretty good, we found this spot in Vermont and must have walked close to a mile round trip from the trail head. Thanks for the comments!

That’s an awesome video. Great music. Jerry looked pretty thirsty before getting to that creek. Thanks so much for posting this. I’ll try Jerry’s blog on tripawds. BTW, I thru-hiked the AT in 2001, but didn’t get Polenka until 2002. Would have loved to have had her for the thru-hike. But we did about 160 miles of AT section hiking together. She loved hiking to top of Pikes Peak 3X in Colorado Springs after that. Etc. Thanks again.

It looks like such hard work. Did the dog do the entire trail? My dog Polenka has a hemangio-pericytoma on a rear leg. Uncertain whether to amputate. Sarcomas are more aggressive, but hemangiopericytoma’s are suppose to just be locally invasive, slow to metastisize.

That dog should be on a leash or in the pound, I give ratz ass if it has one leg. dgs belong in the pound or on the table as a meal.

I have no idea. I wish I had found a German version, that would have been hilarious! I found the tune on this video (/watch?v=LZrDROFCFSw) Too funny …

creekracer says:

You make it sound so obvious. :) It’s not originally German, then?

jerrygdawg says:

Why it’s “The Happy Wanderer,” of course … Yodelodelayheehoooo!

creekracer says:

What IS that song? I remember hearing it in my grandmother’s house when I was little. Of course, it was in German.
