Project For Awesome: Canine Epilepsy & the Ollie’s Fund

Sibry attempts to talk face to face, well face to camera. Donate to the Ollie’s Fund here: www.aht.org.uk Click to tweet this video: clicktotweet.com www.projectforawesome.com www.youtube.com Epilepsy is a disorder affecting around 1% of the human population and 5% of dogs. It can occur in any breed, although typically some are more commonly affected than others. Epilepsy can have a huge impact on the quality of life of both the dog and owner and, for this reason, many epileptic dogs end up being put down. Ollies Fund has been set up to allow researchers at the Animal Health Trust to research into the cause of the illness and prevent dogs suffering in the future. The Trusts Neurology Unit has several ongoing projects to improve the understanding, treatment and, most importantly, the prevention, of epilepsy. This goal can only be achieved with the help and expertise of the specialist Canine Genetics Department at the Trust. By studying the genetics of the condition in a variety of breeds, it is anticipated that a number of different genes will be identified that play a role in the development of canine epilepsy. In order to continue this pioneering research, the Animal Health Trust needs funding. Any money raised for Ollies Fund will go directly towards this project, and will support the work being done to get to the root of canine epilepsy.

Aww, my German Shep had seizures. It was terrible. You’re right, it makes you feel helpless. So sad…
Great video.

Much love!!

GoneToTheSnowDogs says:

Yeah, it was so hard. They did end up getting another St. Bernard. The one that passed was named Moonshine, so they named this one Sunshine. We someetimes have videos of her with our dogs on our Channel. Our channel is dedicated completely to our Dogs. You have a beautiful Lab and we hope the best for Lucy! *Hugs* from Shiloh and Shelby the Siberian Huskies!

Sibry says:

I’m sorry to hear about your parents dog. We’re fortunate enough that at Lucy’s age she only has them monthly and not weekly or daily. I hope it never comes to that. It’s a horrible thing and torture for us owners. Thanks very much for subscribing :)

GoneToTheSnowDogs says:

Oh my gosh. You video made me cry! I am subscribing to you channel. My parents had a St. Bernard that passed away at only 3 years old. She had horrible seizures. None of the medications she took helped. We fought for 6 months to try and help her, until she ended up having 6 Grand Mal Seizures in one day. . She had brain damage and then continued to have seizures while she was at the vets office. It was horrible. Hug that dog for me and my dogs!
