@lynnandian I have a feeling you didnt use fleece correctly then. I’ve been using fleece for over 6 months and have had no problem with any sort of foreign bodies since I began its use.

filcon says:

@GoldZap your right! Not all hay is good! Actually straw hay is not really hay, is bad as bedding and as guinea pigs food. For bedding I use Cubetto Wood from Versele-Laga, it’s compressed wood small “logs”, they are very good but a little bit expensive. For hay, as food, I give them Mountain Hay also from Versele-Laga, it’s the best I can find where I live!

MunteanClaudiaV says:

no bleach omg! no detergents… they are toxic, u can use vinegar and after clean with water ;)

GoldZap says:

@filcon Careful when tossing around ‘hay’ as a bedding. If there’s a pile of straw hay, and the pigs runs into it, the eye is about hey level and is easily stabbed by these harsh stalks. Specifiy soft hay next time.

GoldZap says:

Toxic and Pine alike give off fumes. Aspen is safe to use.

I never used dish soap. Didn’t seem like a good idea, hard to scrub off in my opinion.

@lilbeatch no. my hamster goes through one big bag of care fresh in a month and a half. you are supposed to clean out soiled stuff and replace every day and a full cleaning every week. plus both guinea pigs and hamsters are supposed to have 1-3 inches of bedding

lilbeatch says:

yeh i hate when people dont seem to realise theres a difference! sawdust should be illegal to sell for animals! you open the bag and its like POOFT in your face!

lilbeatch says:

it started to sprout mushrooms? um no i think you were high..

lilbeatch says:

yeh but hamsters are tiny so bedding last them ages! bigger animals have bigger cages so they need more bedding to cover it plus they poop more

lilbeatch says:

not really you need to mush it up and put it through a blender n shit then make it into little blobs then dry it all out and to do that with stuff you have at home would make a tiny amount at a time and it takes aaaaages.
i tried it when i was out of bedding and had no money and it turned out pretty cool but just wasnt worth the effort

expert village is gay

filcon says:

The yellow/orange stains are deposits of insoluble basic compounds present in urine, so washing only with water will not work. You can scratch the stains or/and, since the compounds are basic, you can use a weak acid solution. I use vinegar. You can also use other weak acid solutions like the ones used to clean coffee machines and electric water boilers. After, just wash with a lot of water. I ADVISE YOU NOT TO USE OTHERS ACIDS, YOU CAN ARM YOUR PETS, DAMAGE THE CAGE AND GET SEVERE SKIN DAMAGE.

filcon says:

Sawdust and woodshavings are not the same. Sawdust, as you can tell by the name e mostly wood dust, which you have to avoid. Whoodshavings are small and very thin pieces of wood, but if you want to use this make sure it’s wood dust free and proper for guinea pigs. But you can also use hay, or little compressed wood / straw logs proper for guinea pigs, rabbits, … that are dust free, mite free and absorbent. You can buy all the proper beddings in pet store.

lynnandian says:

i used fleece once and it got full of poo and these worms so i had to stop it was sooooooooooo disgusting

OpheliaThistle says:

lol no way you you only have to change the cage just once a week. every guinea pig ive had ive had to clean every couple of days.

snksnksnk says:

I use fleece for my piggies! It is easy to clean and they love it!

xgoohx says:

I used carefresh and after 1 week the bedding grew on their little peices of poop and started to sprout mushrooms. only after one week. That is why i wont ever use carefresh anymore ever!

Recon9143 says:

Whaaah? its only 8$ lol i buy it all the time for my hamster..

samaan011 says:

carefresh costs too much

08animals08 says:

Dont worry!! My sawdust is made for guinea pigs in perticular — they are dust extracted and they have sent or cider or pine. It cost a lot but its worth it. Remember it MENT for guinea pigs! I did already know that though.

troytroisk8 says:

can i create home made recycled newspaper stuff? is it like the pulp for paper mache?(<–is the spelling correct?lol)

can somebody teach me how?

JasmineChannel says:

me too aaahH!!! :/

JasmineChannel says:

my guinea pigs name is peaches!! haha how funny :p

JasmineChannel says:

can i prlease give yo usome advice? seriously consider not use wood shavings. My guinea pig went to the vet yesterday and we found out he has mites which the vet said usually comes from wood bedding. Once they have mites they dont go away ever if you dont talk them to the vet to be treated. My vet bill was about $125…also he had a wood chip stuck in his paw and it got swollen and infected and had to get a surgical scrub. Id recommend recycled paper bedding or news paper in strips
